EQUAL ACCESS MIDWIFERY CLINIC

HELP FUND ST. LOUIS'S ONLY NON-PROFIT MIDWIFERY CLINIC SERVING THE PROMISE ZONE, JAMAA BIRTH VILLAGE'S EQUAL ACCESS MIDWIFERY CLINIC!

A new building in Ferguson has been donated to Jamaa Birth Village (A 501 (c)(3) Non-Profit) to host St. Louis's first Equal Access Midwifery Clinic with expanded and comprehensive care, providing expectant women and families with prenatal and postpartum care at any phase of pregnancy. In phase 1 of "Jamaa's New Home" capital campaign, the community came together to meet and exceed the goal of raising 60k in 60 days to match a 125k donation made by two-Ferguson physicians, (the owners of the building) to purchase the medical office facility at 40 n. Florissant Rd for the Equal Access Midwifery Clinic. In phase 2, the community is gathering together again to match contacts and resources in an effort to partner with a reputable contracting firm and skilled community members in completing the necessary renovations for the proposed opening of the clinic in 2019. Phase 3 will consist of the grand opening and launching of Jamaa Birth Village's Equal Access Midwifery Clinic. All donations and in-kind volunteer hours are tax deductible!

What to Expect: Jamaa's Equal Access Midwifery Clinic will implement "The JJ Way®" & Centering Pregnancy© model of care to eliminate disparities by providing care for women of color by culturally competent Midwives & providers of color, while also working with allies to train more Midwives and birth workers in an effort to lower perinatal disparities. The JJ Way®  provides high quality prenatal and postnatal care, birth services and support, as well as educational and social support services to women, regardless of their choice of delivery site or practitioner, or the ability to pay. Centering Pregnancy© is group prenatal care bringing women due at the same time out of exam rooms and into a comfortable group setting. Research team finds Centering Pregnancy to reduce risk of preterm birth by more than a third and save more than $2 million.

  • CenteringPregnancy participation reduced the risk of premature birth by 36%

  • For every premature birth prevented, there was an average savings of $22,667

  • Centering reduced the risk of a NICU stay by 28%

Women in the promise zone are receiving little to no prenatal care resulting in premature births, low-birth weight babies and infant mortality in increasing rates. Jamaa's Equal Access Midwifery Clinic will improve:

  • Access to culturally congruent care and providers

  • Decreased prematurity rates + increased birth weight

  • Cost benefit analysis for providers, hospitals and families-Less cost associated with birth due to the positive impact on lowering prematurity, lessening the need for expensive NICU stays

  • Client provider relationships, continuity of care and early detection of Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders
